Dress Your Room in Sophistication for 2010!

By: Johanna McLellan

Late last year I had the pleasure of attending House & Home Magazines 2010 Trends breakfast.  As per usual breakfast was full of new ideas, great shapes and wonderful colour. Unfortunately Lynda Reeves was unable to join us that morning; however Kirby Miller General Manager of House & Home Media did share some of her ideas with the group.  Lynda focused on the idea that 2010 would mimic 2009 where we would once again see cocooning and spending more time at home taking a forefront. One statement that really resonated was that 2010 was going to be about expression not impression.  When looking through the trends it was quite evident that colour, shapes and pattern were all going to be playing a major role in our designs allowing us to bring out this new expression that Lynda had been referring to.

PARA Paints 2010 palette is liquid fashion at its best; providing you the latest fashion trends for your walls and focusing on creating spaces all about you. Influences of simple pleasures, innovation, nature & cross generations give us palettes full of passion, playfulness and modern thinking.

 2010 is all about blues

A transition from the green we’ve been seeing around us for the past couple of years; we’re now seeing a deep jewel tone, cool blue, spa influenced blue & an exciting electric blue.  Just like adding the perfect handbag to an outfit this will tie everything together bringing you that perfect amount of attention and envy to your space.

The blues we’re seeing are definitely taking a cue from The Pantone Color Institutes 2010 colour of the year. This year the group chose turquoise (Aqua blue) as their colour of the year. Jane Schoenborn, design director of Lilly Pulitzer said that turquoise is universally appealing. It puts everyone in the same sate of mind – on vacation.’   Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute said there was no runner-up to turquoise, because people crave escapism and freshness after a tough year. The shade is on the cusp of green & blue, which makes it both inviting & serene- characteristics associated with blues – and invigorating and luminous, which comes from green.’

In next weeks post!

We’ll share the top colour picks for spring and perfect combinations of 2010′s most popular hues!
